CIGSYA is excited to announce that The David Bohnett Cyber Center is now open. The hours for the Cyber Center are Tuesdays, Wednesdays 3-6PM.The David Bohnett Cyber Center is located at at 56 Barnstable Road, Hyannis, MA. 02601 (508) 778-7788 ext 12.

How The Cyber Center Came To Be
Young people in the Cape Cod region of Massachusetts who are actively involved in the Cape and Islands Gay and Straight Youth Alliance made it clear to staff and volunteers at CIGSYA that they wanted to have the Center open more hours and wanted to have the opportunity to have more technology resources available, specifically access to state of the art Internet technology and Cable Access. Over the next eighteen months CIGSYA worked hard and with a $20,000 grant in support of the Project, from the David Bohnett Foundation, CIGSYA was well on the way to having the Project commence. CIGSYA continued to fundraise and was able to secure thousands of dollars in donated services of contractors, supplyers and volunteers. In addition a $25,000 grant was received from the Town of Barnstable Revitilization Department to support renovations portions of the Project including accessibility, electrical, plumbing and widening doorways. The entire first floor of the building has now been completely renovated with tin ceilings, granite counters, refinished hardwood and tiled floors and wainscoating. The colors reflect warm and rich tones and the technology available is state of the art computers with flat monitors. At CIGSYA we like young people to know that we value them and we have now created a beautiful and exciting space which reflects our belief in their worth. If you are 22 and under we hope you will come take advantage of these remarkable services in kind. Please take a moment to support our program financially ("give right now online") or mail a check to 56 Barnstable Road, Hyannis, MA. 02601. Perhaps even volunteer opportunities as we strive to support the young people of our region. If you would like to make a donation of goods or services please email us at cigsyahouse@aol.com.

Schedule of activities
The Cyber Center is now open. Please see our web site calendar for specific hours of availability of activities which include Tutoring and Open Drop In Hours. The Cyber Center is open to young people 22 years of age and younger.

"What do you think about having a fully operational Cyber Cafe on Cape Cod in downtown Hyannis, run almost entirely by people ages 22 and under? Young people have told us that they feel there is a great need for such a Project, and that they have interest in seeing it be youth run, however we need you in order for it to happen. We here at CIGSYA see young people as adults and treat you as equals. We also believe you should be directly involved in making all the services you want, happen! Amazingly CIGSYA is willing to support the creation of a Cyber Cafe in this space, but we are waiting for a small group of dedicated and visionary young people who believe in this project to step forward with the energy and commitment to help make this happen. As adults we're ready to go when you say the word, but we need you to lead. Ready to put your money where your mouth is? Lets Rock.

Are you tired of saying there is nothing to do on Cape Cod? So do something about it and give us a call or email. (508) 362-5313 or cigsyahouse@aol.com.

Funding for this project and the CIGSYA program has been made possible through generous contributions of many individuals and organizations including:

The Cyber Center will feature a casual cafe style atmosphere with tin ceilings and trendy lighting. Interior designer Jody Hines is working with the Renovation team to create a final product which will be truly amazing. Desks with feature flat screen monitors built into the walls and other seating areas will include more comfortable chairs for kicking back.

The Cyber Center will provide its users with a safe, comfortable space where they can learn basic or enhanced computer skills, take a class in software usage, access tutoring, complete homework, work on resume production, engage in research, or navigate the Internet. The Cyber Center will be open to serve young people 22 years of age and younger and will be available at minimal cost.

"Only when young people have a space where they are welcomed, respected and supported, does life seem to come together for them. AT CIGSYA House we stand firmly on the value of providing people with access to information and technology. We believe that young people, when they are given accurate information and when someone believes in their ability to make good decisions, will rise to that challenge. We also believe that when you convey a strong belief in a young person's individual merit, character and integrity, they will amaze you with higher self esteem and healthier decision making. Through such a supportive environment as the Cyber Center young people will gain better skills and become more adequately prepared for life in the world so they may live healthier and happier lives. " according to
Scott A. Fitzmaurice, Executive Director
