Volunteer Opportunities

As we move forward into the next phase of the CIGSYA House Youth Center, we will need additional volunteers to help us build an amazing space for the young people of Cape Cod. We need volunteers for Speaking and Corporate Partnerships. The volunteer and support opportunities are growing. Your support is needed. The young people need your support.

CAPEMIX
(open to anyone within the LGBT community and their supportive allies over the age of 21)
A new social and supportive group has formed at CIGSYA for people within the community who want to meet other people in the community over the age of 21.

The group has a social activity once a month; please contact us for dates and details. The events are developed to bring people together in a social and save environment. It is a great way to meet new people and spend time with current friends.

A group of young people from the CIGSYA program have been asking themselves and others about gender and they have started a bi-monthly conversational group to explore the issue more.

Would you like to join them in this conversation? Questions they have been asking: Is it natural? Biological? Unchangeable? Does it have to be the same as your sex? Have you ever questioned yours? Or others? Have you ever questioned gender itself? Ever thought it might just be a construct of society? Want to find out? If you're interested in taking a deeper look at gender please attend one of our –

Annual Appeal

Spring/Summer 2007
We should take some time to look back and reflect on all that has happened over the past twelve months. We have done that at CIGSYA and we want to share some of our accomplishments with you. Over the past year, between the hours of operations, the Safer Schools Program and the Annual Safer Schools Conference we were able to work with over 1500 young people. We provided opportunities for young people, ages twenty two and under, to become leaders and to be respected for the individuals that they are. We have seen some of the young people transform from shy and self conscience individuals to leaders and organizers within their schools or within the CIGSYA Center. Growth like this may not have happened if CIGSYA did not exist. CIGSYA added two new programs this past year, a Gender Conversation Group and CAPEMIX. The Gender Conversation Group meets twice a month and is open to all ages and CAPEMIX meets monthly and is open to people over the age of twenty one. We have struggled this past year financially, but we have done amazing work despite that. We were able to sustain the programs for the young people without making too many cut backs. We have been lucky enough to have an amazing staff, volunteers and paid, who did not give up hope even through the very tough times; knowing in their hearts that the young people we work with are worth the sacrifices that we have had to make. As we look back we want to thank those of you who could make a donation this past year; your thoughtfulness is much appreciated. Please consider us again as the year draws to a close. If you have not had the resources to donate, we understand; but please keep in mind that any donation is valuable to us. We rely very heavily on individual support for our survival. Have a wonderful summer and we hope to see you around.
Best Wishes
Helen Ladd (Chairperson - Board of Directors)
